Starter for 5 speed w/ 305 - Which years fit? All?
OK i have an 82 TA, its not got a 5 speed out of an 84 Camaro in it, the motor is an older 350 sbc.
I got a starter from the junk yard for an 87 camaro, i figured it didnt fit as it didnt quite go into the bellhousing, but i didnt play wtih it i just saw it not go in and brought it back. Im starting to think i should have played with it a little more.
Are the 84-87 supposed to be the same starters for the camaros? I figured they would be, but i need a definite answer, ill prolly go back and get that starter if it should work.
EDIT: The title should have been 350 not 305, not that that really matters. And also the starter would have bolted to the block so that wasnt the problem, just the hitting the bellhousing.

There is some variation in the nose cones of stock-style starters, and you could also have this problem if you're trying to use a 168-tooth flywheel with a T5 using the T5's stock bellhousing. T5s only came with 153 tooth flywheels.

I am using all stock parts from the camaro, its the smaller flywheel, so its gotta be the 153. All the parts came off the same car minus the engine. So the tranny, flywheel, clutch etc all came together, the car i used for parts did not come with a starter tho so unsure how to find one that fits.

You MUST use the T5 starter from a 84+ T5 car OR a 93-97 camaro with the T56 6 speed(lt1 car).

So, with that said the starter off that 87 Camaro should have worked? It had the straight bolt pattern on it if that signifies it being off a 5 speed?
