Changing my 305TPI for a 355 Carburated

Hi guys,

I have a 1987 Camaro Iroc-Z with a 305TPI engine and manual transmission. I have had too many electrical problems, so I decided to swap in a 355 carburated engine with the following specs:

355 c.i w/Aluminium heads - Edelbrock carb 600cfm - Camshaft: .480 Int / .486 Exh & 229 Int / 230 Exh duration @ .050
Compression Ratio 10:1

What should I do with the TPI wiring harness? Do I need to get a new one? Do I need any kind of computer? How are my tachometers and lights on the dashboard going to work? What sensors Do I need?

Sorry, I am new at this. I've been strugling with the car for the past two years and it is still not running. I'll be ordering the engine soon. The car has been completely dismanteled for restauration purposes, so if you can, please tell me "everything" I need. Its like starting from scratch.

Thanks,

rempa

take the tpi off very carefully both through the body parts and the computer under the passenger side of the dash. you can sell the tpi with all that one it as a complete set - that is what makes it valuable.
also all the wires that connect to the engine and if possible the gas pedal wire - you will not be needing it.
if you take out the computer - and you should to make sure it is marketable - you can get an aftermarket if you want.
im not sure if the tach and other things go through the ecm or is they just monitor it with a link going to the various components.
the wiring diagram i have is for a 90 with tpi but it is map and not the maf you have.
did you car come with air? if it did and you are not going to use it then how about selling me the bracket that holds the compressor to the engine?
let me look at the electrical plans and maybe i can post the right ones for you.

no i dont see them going through the ecm just look at the wires and see if it will work if you put them together. can you a wire with an alegator on it and a pin at each end and join them together to see if the tach needs the ecm to work.

everything on the drivers side will control the engine and monitor it. Im doing the same exact thing to mine. Youll need the sensor on the drivers side for the coolant temp wire. a return style regulator, a way to run the fuel pump, wire up the fans.
