Elecetric Fuel Pump Question?
Elecetric Fuel Pump Question?
I have an 86 camaro. Originally it was a 305 4brl with manual fuel pump. I swaped it with a vortec marine crate motor that is not drilled out for the manual fuel pump. So I am using the electric fuel pump that normally would have been used on that motor in a boat.
My Question is: Can I hook the fuel pump up through a later model oil pressure switch with no relay and it work? My car is not wired for the three pronged oil pressure switch. If this would work how do I wire the switch. If it wont work what would be the easiest relay to hook up?

It would be best to wire it through a relay and fuse. The oil pressure switch would be wired to kick in the relay. You could also use the unused starter solenoid switch to power the relay during cranking.
The relay allows the high current draw from the pump to be taken directly from a high-amp batter wire and reduces the load on the ignition switch circuits.
