few questions. been reading for hours... lol
ok. just got an 89 camaro rs, 305 tbi with 180,000 miles on it, 700r4 tranny.
here is what i want to do:
383 Stroker, carbed, msd 6al ignition, decent cam with a lopey idle, shorty headers, true dual universal exhaust.
what i need help clearing up:
I read that i can get rid of the computer. I plan on putting in switches for the fuel pump, ignition, start, fan, and tranny lock up. the key switch is going to supply power to the switches, so u still need the key to start the car, and then the switches are going to power relays to reduce load from all the switches and wiring.
I removed all the smog stuff already, except for the pump, next to go is the A/C. I assume that i can run a serp setup belt with just the alt, water pump, and power steering pump.
The EGR valve. Is this really needed? What exactly is it good for? i know what it does, but does it really do that good of a job? how do i remove it? just get an intake manifold without provisions for one when i get a new manifold? where else does it connect besides the intake manifold?
Will all my gauges work without the computer? what about the dummy lights?
What kind of rad. overflow tank can i use that is smaller? don't really need that huge of one i don't think.
planning on relocating the whole washer fluid tank and pump to the hatch area. is the motor in the pump strong enough to flow washer fluid from the hatch to the front?
what else can i pull or relocate from under the hood to make it look cleaner? i will be mounting the msd 6al box somewhere under the hood, after i make room for it.
its going to be a while till i do this swap, money is kind of tight right now, but it gives me plenty of time for research.
first things i gotta do is get rid of the rust, and figure out what hood i wanna get, then paint it. going to paint the stock hood, and the new hood, keep the stock on for now, and then when i do the swap, put the new hood on.
does anyone have a 350 or 383 under the hood with a dual plane intake manifold, holley double pumper, and an open air filter element? how big of a cowl hood do you have? i'm looking to get a functional cowl induction hood, just need to know which hoods work and give enough clearance.
any info, advice, anything really, will be appreciated.
thanks,
ken
