removing the 305

I am in the process of removing the 305, all I have left is removing the exhaust then I should be able to unbolt the motor mounts and lift out the engine. My question is where is a good point to bolt up the chain for lifting out the engine? I noticed a hook on the front of the engine but did not see a place in the back.

Thanks for the help!

I usually pull a rear corner intake manifold bolt and put a longer one through the chain, or if I'm feeling up to it, use one of the bolt holes on the back of the head.

Re: removing the 305

Thanks for the tip, I've never pulled an engine before, but hopefully this weekend that will change!

Re: removing the 305

would you recommend an engine load leveler? As of right now I have the tranny removed, but left the bell housing attached to the engine. I will be using a celing hoist.

Thanks!

They usually help in the process. Mine is a little too long and gets in the way of the cowl lip. My brother has a shorter one that doesn't have that problem.

Re: removing the 305

I got the engine out last night, the engine leveler definetly helped. Also my engine actually had another hook on the back of the engine, so I just bolted the engine leveler up to those hooks and it went about as smooth as it could since I was doing it by myself.

Thanks for the helpful advice!
