86 camaro 305 FI options....

Ok ive got an 86 IROC 305 FI.... my issue is... well the car runs and drives great... no hesitation, no crap idle or anything, HOWEVER when i get on it the dipstick keeps popping out which leads me to believe i have excessive blowby/ crankcase pressure...PCV system is fine... My question is what is the CHEAPEST way of addressing this problem... I just cant condone repairing an engine of this age i feel that it would be more cost effective to just replace it... so would a direct replacement 305 FI long block be the cheapest solution or 350 or what.... im pretty good with cars but engine replacement is a whole nother ballgame to me...lol.... help me please i know yall have input...

There is a place here called factory engine exchange who will charge 2100 installed for a 305 long block.... is that a good price or not...

Ask them what it would cost to put in a 350.

I can't condone rebuilding 305's, or paying someone to replace one 305 with another.

What happened to $2100?

Sounds like way too much money to me. $3000 for a 350 engine & install sounds too high.

Re: 86 camaro 305 FI options....

the 2100 was for a noname remanned engine at an engine shop.... the 3000 is for a NEW gm longblock 305 not 350.... i want to keep it as original as possible so im satisfied with the power of the 305

Well, if the objective is originality and not upgrade, then rebuild the original 305. There is nothing about its age that would be a disadvantage to a "new" GM 305. Why? Because age isn't the issue, wear is. A rebuild replaces the worn parts. In addition, most of these "new" GM replacement engines are actually rebuilt, anyway.
