Swapping 305 for 350, but mechanic said something about flywheel wtf
Im getting complete 350 tpi into my 92b4c1le with 5 speed, but mechanic keeps giving me ru around now he says it needs a bigger flywheel because the one on there is too small. Ive never heard of this on any swap post. Please help any tips or advice would be appretiated. thanks

As far as I know and all the swappes I have been involved in you do not need a diffrent flywheel, unless one motor has a 2 pieace rear main seal( 85 and older)

yeah, he's trying to mess with you... everything from a 350 will bolt up to a 305 and vice versa. Don't get screwed.
A 305 and a 350 are the same blocks!!

Unless you have a truck crank in your motor i don't think you will have a problem.
If you get a different flywheel you might need to a different starter as well, or at least shim it.

Thanks for the replies, but he said flywheel, but maybe he ment flexplate. Does it have to do with the swap as far as it beign to small? The engine is from a 92z28. Ill have to make sure what he means tomorrow.
I know after I swapped a 1979 350 into my '84 camaro and then toasted the FLEXPLATE I went and got a flexplate for a 1979 350 engine. That Flexplate was too big because of the cutout in the bellhousing. It wouldn't fit on and still allo wmys tarted to mount where it normally should mount so I had to take it back and waste an extra 15 bucks to get the smller flexplate for a 305. Don't worry though. It's plenty strong enough. Mine broke because I don't think I had the tranny bolted tightly against the engine. So now I'm out a tranny. Ahh such is life! Everyone else is right though. DONT GET SCREWED. 350's and 305's are same block as long as it's same year or newer. Like that one person said 85 or older is 2 piece rear main so be careful. just use 305 flywheel on 350 and you'll be fine. By the by. FLEXPLATE is auto Flywheel is Manual. Same thing different name.
