Vortec heads/Qjet carb
I'm planning on a 350 for my '83 Z28 Five speed car. I've been looking at PAW's block kits. My question is, if i get a short block and vortec heads, is anyone making a manifolt yet to use a spreadbore carb. I see an edelbrock part number 3706 but i think maybe this is just for use with the '87 and up heads. Am i right in thinking that the vortec heads are different still than these.
Hopefully someone's done this and can tell me if there's a manifold or not. If there is then i'll start thinking about carb tuning and computer stuff.
i am planning on keeping the computer, and hopefully all the emmisions stuff.
thanks

The vortec heads have to have a vortec-specific manifold due to the different bolt pattern. Edelbrock makes one and I believe it will accept spread or squarebore.

the performer intake (edl 2116) accepts QJ I believe, however, the performer RPM does not

vortecfcar is correct...
The edelbrock Performer Vortec Manifold ($2116) will accept square or spreadbore.
The Performer RPM (#7101) will only accept squarebore
At least that's what my 2000 Edelbrock Catalog says hehehe

thanks so much for all the info folks. i'm glad to here i won't be having to use a spacer. i'm a trans am series race mechanic and i'd get harrassed for such butchery, not to mention it might cause hood clearance problems on my '83 Z28.
anyone have good/bad experience with the vortec heads. the magazines won't shut up about them and they sound like a good deal for around $400.
thanks again

I think you'll be pleased. Use the right intake gasket and torque to 11FT lbs! I believe. This intake bolt arrangement is something hey should have used years ago! I love the heads.
