best small block swap

best small block swap
what would be the best small block to swap into my 1987 camaro rs. right now it has the 2.8L V6 with a manual 5 speed tranny. do i need a new tranny or will the one i have good? i dont want to make it automatic so let me know if it will work.

I'm surprised someone hasn't jumped on this one.
I'm not a T-5 expert, so can only repeat what I've heard. There are differences between a V-6 & V-8 T-5, but the V-6 version will work. Although T-5's can last behind healthy V-8's, they really shouldn't be expected to withstand repeated abuse.
The V-8 swap itself will involve a lot of parts and a substantial level of work, so those aspects of the swap are probably more of a limitation than the tranny itself. You will need, for instance, V-8 bell housing, flywheel, and clutch parts. During the swap would be the best time to upgrade the tranny from a labor standpoint, but funds are usually the real limiter for us swappers. See other recent posts for details on the V-8 installation.

82 Berlinetta, orig V-6 car. Rescued w/86 LG4/TH700R with all harnesses, sensors, ECM, etc. 2.73 open. Cat-back from '91 GTA, Accel HEI SuperCoil. AMSOIL syn lubes bumper-to-bumper. Daily driver, work-in-progress (LB9 w/ZZ3 cam, exhaust, paint, etc.).
57 Bel Air, my 1st car. Currently 396 .030 over, Weiand Action+, Edelbrock 1901 Q-Jet, Jacobs Omnipack, 1-3/4" headers, TH400 w/TCI Sat Night Special conv & shift kit, 3.08 10-bolt, AMSOIL syn lubes bumper-to-bumper. Best 15.1 @ 5800' Bandimere. Daily driver while Camaro was being put together.

ull get about a block on a v8 with a v6 transmission IF u can get it to bolt up..dont be stupid get the new v8 trans...
