from 305 to 355... many questions !

ok, currently I have an LG4 (carbed 305), and I bought another car with a built carbed 355 that has been in a wreck and is totalled , engine still runs great etc.. so it's all good
his 3rdgen didn't have a computer on board , he ripped it out , so I am guessing that it would be the best to replace any and all sensors that are on it 'cause only god knows if they work. also , his car had a TH350 tranny installed , I have 700r4 and want to keep it , I am 99.% positive that they will bolt up, but just want to make sure about it...

now to the real questions.

what tools will I need to do the engine swap ? (I have basic tools , ratches , big and small etc... but I am talking about some special tools... like those gear pullers etc.. will I need any of that ? if you know their price please let me know , but I can find that out for myself)

does it matter that I will use a LG4 ECM ? I have to use it because of the emissions crap.

what sensors should I buy in advance ? I have no idea what year the block is , so does that make any difference ? (I guess I Could find out from it's number)

who makes a decent 700r4 tranny that will hol up to the 355 (I believe he claimed that it has around 340hp , and ran 13.8 on stock tires etc...). My tranny is pretty much fubar , so I will have to buy a new one...

I will also be installing a 3.73 rear end , so if there are any companies that make custom trannies with different ratios for "highway cruising" , please let me know, I am willing to sacrifice performance if I can still keep the highway speed around 80mph and decent rpms... I think I should achive that even with stock 700r4 + 3.73's , but I just want to make sure that I do...

I guess that's about it for now , but I am sure I'll come up with more questions later...

also , his engine has some kind of headers on it , flowmaster I Think... anyway , will my flowtech headers from my 305 bolt up to the 355 ? I have a brand new exhaust from headers to the tail pipes (2.5" cat-back) , so I don't want to buy a new one after 6 months of using this one ya know ?

I am sure that the 2.5" will reduce some performance, but at least it will be quiet , his 3" flowmaster was WAY too loud and unusuable on a daily driver.

I am looking for mid to high 14's from it with a fully loaded 3rdgen with more electronics on board than a boeing 747 lol

mid 14's would be great on a daily driver and I am sure I could bring that down to 14 or maybe even high 13's with slicks and if I lost the weight while racing.

Use all the sensors from your LG4 except get a 350 knock sensor (if your LG4 has one - otherwise don't worry about it). You'll have to use your LG4 carb & distributor. The intake will have to accept a q-jet and EGR (your LG4 intake will work). A Performer or Action + are about as good as you'll get and still meet emissions.

You don't need any special tools except a torque wrench. You won't have to pull any pulleys since you've got two complete engines.

Your headers will work if they are at least 1-5/8" primaries. 1-3/4" primaries are better for healthy 350's, but you're going to be restricted at your exhaust anyway.

I believe Pro Built is the source for the tranny you're looking for. No choice of gears, as far as I know. Having the stock overdrive and keeping the TCC lockup function of the TH700 will keep things acceptable, even with 3.73's.

Good luck. Sounds like you've got a good start. You'll even have left-over parts to sell and offset the cost of things you'll have to buy.
