350TPI, LT1?
Ok this is how it is right at the moment.
I'm in college, have a 91RS(305TBI). Deciding on a nice 350TPI or an LT1, What would need to be done to both motors to make 300+ RWHP?
Also, what would be more economical?
gas milage? maintance?

I would go with the lt-1. I have an L98 and am swapping in an lt-1. You can make 300 rwhp with either motor but its cheaper with the lt-1. Gm High Tech Performance magazine did it last year or the year before with a 4th gen firebird. The mods they used where slp headers and cat back, crank pulley, accell spark box, 160 degree thermostat, hypertec power programmer and some other relatively inexpensive mods. No cam swap or internal work. The lt-1 is getting to be a popular swap and alot of guys have been helpful answering my questions, so I'm sure they would help you . Just my opinion.

All the dyno tests I have seen with stock LT1's have put out around 275 at the rear wheels. A guy I work with has a 97 LT1 T/A and just had his heads and intake ported, put in the LT4 hot cam, and instaled headers and a Borla cat back system and made 375 at the rearwheels. LT1's are real easy to make power with and the after market is very kind to them. On the other hand a TPI motor you are restricted by the intake system and would eventually have to change it to something like a Minni ram (which is what the LT1 intake is designed after). So in the long run the LT1 is defanatly the way to go.
