where to find a block
Where would be the best place to find a 400 sb in good shape, and does anyone know how much a new one would be with a core exchange?

Go to your local junk yards and look in pick-ups and vans from 70-79. Just look at the balancer to see if it's a 400. The decal under the hood isn't always correct because the engine could have been changed.
The 400 balancer has an offset weight since the 400 engine is externally balanced. There's also the posibility you could find someone's 383 that way. Most 400 blocks will be a 509 casting just to make sure.

Look in the autotrader or the thrifty nickel. I can find them in there for around $125.
IMHO it would be great if someone wrote a tech article on putting in a 400sb. Including things like making the starter work and adapting it too a 700R4, etc.
Maybe some pros and cons and price differances. Unfortunitly I don't have any knowledge to do this

Yeah he does have one for sale. He wants $600 for it though. I don't think so. Especially since its used and may have cracks in it. I want something In the vicinity of $100 or so.
