LT1 Crate motor

I can get an LT1 Crate Motor for a reasonable price from someone I know. It will have no induction, basically a short block with cam and heads. My TPI motor has 148K, so it will need something soon. I want to keep the TPI set up. Can I do this with the LT1? Would it be worth it to get the LT1 crate motor?
Basically, I would like to know my options. I had originally wanted to keep an L98, but I can get this crate motor for $350. So that is convincing.

no the lt1 is all wrong for you. it'll never work. tell who ever has it to e mail me i'll take it, even come get it. yeah it'll work for you. i'd get the l98 heads rebuilt, swap the induction system and what ever else you need. i'd guess your stock computer will work. you could up grade the intake system to make a little more power if you wanted.

I don't exactly agree with ede about how you should go about it. The LT1 is reverse cooling, so you can't use a set of L98 heads I believe, but i'm not positive, but it's definitely something I'd check into. If you wanted to convert it over to an LT1, you've got to try to use your stock accessories and you've got to use the LT1 waterpump, so then you have to figure out a different way to run your serpentine belt. My suggestion is to rebuild your current motor, or do a full blown LT1 swap...it's not tough and I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about it.

My main questions at this point are: Can I use my intake and induction system, the TPI, etc.? Would my stock exhaust manifolds bolt on to the LT1, or how do I needto modify the exhaust (headers, etc.) ? Is the LT1 a better engine than the L98???

No!!! None of your TPI parts will work on a reverse cooling LT1! Either the whole thing or nothing. (Well I guess the headers will fit.)

I like the KYB's, but the eibach's didn't lower my car enough, so i got my cold cut saw and took about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch more out of them. The stance is good and the handling is unbelievable. The only thing I need to do now is subframe connectors, strut tower brace, and some big honkin sway bars.

hey Fredo92, I see you are from Plano. We are in Garland (shh, don't tell anyone...lol). My wife is a member of D.A.M. (D/fw Area Muscle cars) and is the only third gen in the club as of right now . We are looking for others so she will not be the only one...lol. Kind of sucks crusing around with a bunch of LS1 and LT1 cars all the time. Especialy sence all of them run at least 12's. That is ok though she will be there soon enough....lol.

So far car has only been to the track twice and is having sever traction problems but is running 60'-2.34 1/8 mile-9.2 @ 79 MPH.

Novaguy, I'm actually from Murphy, if you know where that is...it might as well be plano, and plano is a little more well known, so that's why i put it in my profile. I've never heard of D/FW area Muscle cars (DAM), but sure, I'd be interested in checking it out since you're the only thirdgen there. There's strength in numbers. The only problem is, my car is still sitting in pieces right now due to the LT1 swap I'm in the middle of....so like you said about running around with a bunch of LT1 and LS1 cars, I guess I'd just be another LT1 to run around with, but at least it's in a thirdgen and not an ugly fourthgen.
