I get most of mine out of Impalas, both sedans and wagons. They were pretty common in the more optioned-up cars in 73 and 74. They also appeared in Monte Carlos and Chevelles in those years; my GF's 74 Monte from years ago came with one.
70-72 are all the 4-bolt main version, casting # 511. You can spot one of these from a great distance away because all small blocks have 2 freeze plugs in the side except that casting which has 3 in each side. The later 2-bolt casting like the one I'm driving now is casting # 510. It is said that the strongest block combo is a 2-bolt block with aftermarket 4-bolt caps installed, because the factory 4-bolt block has less webbing in the mains area. Also those had the thinner walls, that gave the 400 the otherwise undeserved reputation for running hot.
