Sorry, I forgot to mention that it's a 305 TBI. Im not worried about emissions, and I'm going to take out all the AIR system equipment. I have limited funds so I would like to buy a good short block and use as much of my original equipment as possible. This way I can take my time and buy better components as I get the cash.

ok...this is going to sound a little weird, but here it is...
you can get new GM 350 for like 1500 bucks. now, you can also get a GM PERFORMANCE PARTS crate engine for only like 500 bucks more. i was looking into this when i replaced my 305 tbi.
this is an honest jump of like 80 horsepower and a lot of durability. (they are built more as a performance motor)
i thought it was worth it to spend a few hundred more dollars at the beginning and have a sweet engine, rather thna keep on upgrading an engine that wasnt built on as strong a foundation.
i think i said that wring, but for the little jump in money, you may want to check out the 350 HO crate motor. i kept my tbi and computer and all that crap. check out my web site here.
now, keeping costs as low as possible, check out the caprice 350 that is available from GM. it can still use your factory manifold and everything.
if you have any questions, let me know.
