Motor Choice, I need Help!
Motor Choice, I need Help!
I own way too many parts and I need to start using them. What is the best way to go?
I have a complete 305 TPI with a bad bottom end.
I have a 67 327 with 202's ect. runs great fresh heads. Option 1, install tpi on this motor.
I have a 96 Vortec 350 out of a truck with 16000 miles on it complete motor no wiring or computer? Option 2, buy the vortec base when it comes out and install tpi on this motor.
Option 4, buy a crate 350 and install the tpi on it. This is my least desirable option since I need to use some of the parts that I already own.
Option 5, Get a 350 short block and install a set of old style 202 heads and tpi. Not my favorite option but I do have three sets of these heads.
Option 6, I don't know do you guys have any suggestions.

Do the heads on your 327 have the accessory bolt holes in the ends? If not (probably not) then your decision is already partly made for you. They won't work with your accessories so you can't use those heads in that car.
Plus, it kind of depends on your circumstances (that would be budget)
For the best cheapest solution, put the 305 TPI, heads and all, on the 327 short block. That's pretty much a no-brainer as long as the 327 has flat-top pistons. All other options go up from there in $$$$ and hassle.
I was in San Angelo a couple of times some decades back... was kind of like the end of the world out there... changed much?

As for San Angelo not much has changed accept we have a lot of new restrants and Goodfellow AFB has grown a little.

If you can mount your accessories, then the 327 is definately the sweet motor. Nice middle ground between torque and high RPM's. Another question is which TPI manifold you have - '86-older or '87-newer? The latter will have the different angle center-two intake bolts.
After you decide on the 327, send the Vortec engine up to me and I'll use it with my carb setup. I don't have to wait for an intake to be released, and my ZZ3 cam will work sweet in it. Or, buy a crate engine and send the 327 and brackets up my way...

I have the early style manifold so the bolt holes should not be a problem.
