A 334 is a 305 (bored .060, I think) with a 400 crank (if you did the same thing to a 350, you would get a 383). It is what is referred to as a "stroker" motor.

i have a 335. 4.06 bore with a 3.25 stroke. never really did the math it may actually be a 334, or a 336. i sort of guessed at it and figured 335 is what i have.

334 is 305 block bored .030" over w/3.75" (400 SBC) stroke. It is externally balanced, meaning you need a weighted flywheel or flexplate and harmonic balancer. The only kits I've seen are two-piece rear main seal cranks (would require an adapter to use in your '92 block). I believe the kit was around $700 w/flex plate & balancer. You have to grind the oil pan rails on the 305 block to get clearance for the rods. I don't recall if the flex plate was the same diameter as our 3rd gen 305's or if it was larger, but I've seen weights that bolt on to the flex plate so you don't need a specially balanced plate, but don't anyone who uses one.

ede, you have a 336.6 CID engine w/those specs. Sounds like a .060"-over 327.

yep five7 it's a +.06 327 i always called it a 335. i'll have to try to remember to start saying 336 or really a 337 if i rounded up. it's in my old car, but i' m wanting to get rid of it and go back to a 396 like what came in it.

five7kid,
They do make these kits for the 1 peice rearmainseal motors. The main and rod jernels on a 305 and a 350 are the same so you would just get a 383 crank for a 1 peice rear main seal motor and drop it into a 305 block and there you go. I am planning on building one of these motors for my truck sence I have the original 305 out of the wifes Z28 just laying around I decided I might as well do something with it. Not to mention this combination will get good gas milage and still makes a tun of torque so it is great for a toe vehicle.

82 Z28 with 350.motor has .030 forged flat top pistions other wise stock bottom end, Summit 214/224 cam with 1.6 Harland Sharp roller rockers, stock 882 heads for now (will be getting a set of the 23 degree Trick Flows this summer), Performer RPM intake, Holley 750 Vacuum secondary, Th350 with 2200 converter, stock 3.23 geared rearend for now (getting 9" later on), Headman shorty headers, custom 2.5" into 3.5" Y pipe into M.A.C. offroad pipe and M.A.C. cat back system. So far car has only been to the track twice and is having sever traction problems but is running 60'-2.34 1/8 mile-9.2 @ 79 MPH.
