2.8L to 3.4L question

I have an 85 with a 2.8L with 200k miles, I wanna install a 3.4 from 92, I know the mounts and accessories are the same and that I can run my fuel injection with the 3.4L´s injectors. What I need to know is if I can plug it in to my 2.8's computer? Any help on this will be greatly appreciated guys.

This is EXACTLY what I am doing.
Yesterday, AM, I fried my motor.
So far, I gotten a complete running long block for $750. (3.4 w/ 6 month warranty)
Swapping is easy, as it will fit.
Sensors is my question, too.
And the computer, too.
Can I keep my old 1985 Firebird, with idiot light dash, use that ECM with that proper PROM?
HELP!

It will run. It just wont be at its maximized performance. Gm markets the 3.4 for s10's with the 2.8 as a bolt in. I would go for it. Im sure it will be stronger.

So what youre saying is that it would be better if I pull the harness and computer from the 92 bird as well? Also, what do I need to get positraction on my car?? I really want solid off the line performance(as far as v6's go)so I would like to see both tires spin instead of just one. Would a rear end from a V8 car work, what kind of gears would I need? This car is my daily driver but I want more attitude and kick more ***** @ss . Latter projects would include a turbo.

ked85 dont you just hate that lighted dash we have? I's getting ready to swap for a backlit 86 and put in some MacEwen white face gauge inserts with a blue light.

Uh... no '92 f-body came with a 3.4! That should be a 3.1 in that car, unless someone did a swap already.

I hate that idiot light dash.
It cost me my engine, on Tuesday!
What I am discovering is that I need to swap 2.8 intake to the 3.4 block.
Swap everything from 2.8, the timing chain, timing chain cover, water pump & balancer onto the 3.4.
3.4 is crank driven ignition system, 3 coil packs, unlike our 1985 distributor.
I MAY be able to use the 3.4 injectors.
I MAY be able to use the 1985 ECM, as is, if I do some swapping.
I have a feeling I'm gonna go with the sure thing, fix my current 2.8.
It's a $200 sure thing, instead of a (at the moment, only) $800 gamble.

I need to be educated more, on the 3.4-2.8 swap. No time, right now, to gamble, I need this Firebird for my LA, CA car.

keep your 2.8 block, buy a 3.1 crank and pistons, overbore 1mm and then you will have a 3.2 liter motor. Purchase a hot cam, port and polish your throttle body, intake and exhaust manifolds, put a three angle vlave job on your heads, buy a set of injectors from a 305 tpi at junkyard. You also need a hotter coil and ign. control module, and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. This will result in aprox. 215 to 225 hp and around 230-235 fpt. I own some fieros and this is what I have done to them.

84 z-28,84 trans-am,85 firebird,86 firebird, 85 fiero gt, 86 fiero gt, and unfortunatly an 84 bronco

This is the skinny.
THE TWO DETAILS, I've haven't had a solid response on, yet, details

the 2.8/3.4 flexplate/balancer.

the CAM question.
Does the 3.4 have a distributor drive gear on the rear of the 3.4 cam.

Take the two motors, side by side.
From the 2.8, relocate the induction/distributor system to the 3.4.
I understand there is a plug, covering the rear distributor hole.
Remove it.
How?
No one details that answer, yet.
Swap the 3.4 injectors into the 2.8 fuel rails.
Bump up fuel pressure.
No one details how that is done yet.
THIS WAY, you can run/use the current 1985 ECM & PROM & wiring harness.
Basically, you are re-dressing a stripped 3.4 long block, to become a grown up 2.8.

I am still going ot be doing this, but, I must go abckwards to go forwards.
I need to get this 2.8 running. I'm going to fix mine.
This 2.8 will be going into my 1985 S-10 Blazer, anyway, one day, so, I still win.

Thanks alot guys, this is really a whole lot of stuff I didnt know, as long as we're at it what's the cost diff. between doing this and swapping in a V8, I know that no matter which of the 2 I choose I will still have to get a brake upgrade and new tranny, rear end with posi, what else??

If I get the V8 it will probably be a tpi L98 from a thirdgen or, if pigs start to fly or god condemns me with money, an LT-1.

So what do you think is more cost effective??? I didn't wanna change my engine to V8 cause my car is an SE V6 but the hell with that if getting a good V6 swap is too expensive.

God knows my 2.8 killed quite a few integras with just a flowmaster american thunder cat back and a re routed "free Ram Air" mod.
