ok this isnt about a thirdgen but it has been done before so i will ask. i have an S10 that has a 4cyl and it just seized up. and i have a 305 ready to go in but i have to pull the 4banger out and i was wondering if the 4banger bell housing will bolt up to the 305 bolt holes. i know 6's go to 8's but what about 4's to 8's. just curious. and thanks to this damn truck i have to drive my IROC in the snow. POS truck. but it will run again i guarantee it.

Yup, The 305 will go right in. The prob is the oil pan. You will need to get the swap motor mounts. They make all the parts to get the job done including headers. I talked to advanced adapters extensively when I was considering the conversion. The 4 banger has the same bellhousing pattern as the 4.3 and the smallblock. The 2.8 is different. What year is the S-10? 89 and later have a different box for the A/C heat exchanger and prior years will need to have a small clearance fiberglassed into it. although jags that run (www.jtr.com) has alot of info on thier page about the swap, they are in my opinion rather rude when you call them to discuss the probs that pop up. Summit and Jegs both sell parts needed( mounts radiators, headers) for about the same price as everyone else and advanced has room to haggle on the price. (Don't tell anyone but I got them down 10-25% on almost everything)
