Rebuild/Buildup

Hello.

I have a couple of questions regarding some small but to me tricky things. I'm building a 350 and I am saving some components from my 305 (performance cam, gear drive etc). I'm moving the cam from the 305 to the 350 but can I do the same with the lifters (non-roller) as long as I keep them on the same lobes, or do the "new" block require new lifters? Also, I'm installing new pistons w. a bit of dome, would that require rebalancing of the rotating assembly opposed to the original pistons? If so, are the weights of the rings included in the balancing process?

Thanks.

You can keep the same lifters. In fact, it would be better to keep the old lifters (as long as you keep them on the same lobe, like you said) than it would be to put in new ones. But, you should still coat them with cam install lube and run a break-in it like it was a new cam (only because the lifter bores may be located slightly different due to machining tolerances at the block plant).

The pistons should be close to the stock piston weight, again at least within the factory tolerance. But, to be sure, the only way to do it is to have the rotating assembly balanced. And, yes, that includes the weight of the rings - you need to take all the parts to the shop (crank, rods, bearings, rings, pistons w/pins) when you have it balanced.
