279 cadillac northstar swap??

it is a great motor, many features shared with the LS1 in desing, but the one truely great feature is on a 2 ton+ cadilac seville it can get up to 35-40 mpg becuase of the fuel systems ability to run on 4 or 6 cyclinders when at idle or highway cruising and then switch back to 8 when you need to haul(might need special torque converter also). I know some hot-rodders costum fit these engines in their cars but how!!!!. Where on earth do you find a bell housing that will accept any rearwheel drive transmissions? This is a total pipe dream and for the price i could just go super gas gusseling 383 for the better power. But I was thinking about it on the ride home and if anyone could shed some light onto any bell housing and tranny combose that would work for any year f-body or a future hot rod that would be great.

There was a 4-6-8 cly mode in Caddilacs in the early 80s. It was a piece of crap! Nice idea, poor execution. GM is investigating a
newer, updated version. Or so i've heard.

The Norhtstar you refer to, does ot have such a system. It has a coolant loss feature.
(Limp home mode) runs on 4 cly, alternating. Just to get you to a garage, if your really stuck. I agree though a 300hp Northstar would be really cool in a IROC

Yeah we have a 91 4.9 Caddy. I believe it will outrun a L69 MC SS, which is saying a whole lot for a FWD piece of crap. I put Bosch injectors in mine, from a F*rd 302, amazing how much of an improvement they made. Definitely a good motor. Also definitely, a long way from a drop-in into any RWD car. Details like... the oil pan... would be horrendous.
