Some info on head swap HELP

Hello Iam going to put mt TPI set up off my 91Z28 it has a 305 and Iam putting it on a 327. Which heads can I use for that year of block and what type of heads can I use? Can I use L98 heads??? Can I use LT1 heads??? I don't want to fool aroung with mating bolt patterns and ovaling the holes in the intake I want this to be as simple as possible. I live in a area where not to many people want to do custom things to intakes and heads. So any info would be really helpful. Thank you.

L98 heads would work. personally i don't think it's a very good combo. the tpi is good for low end power and the 327 is a high rpm engine. your induction will be mismatched to the engine.

ok got to thinking about it a little more, i've never done it and don't know any one that has, i believe you'd be ahead to ask around and find someone with a tpi 327 and se what they have to say about it.

The 327 isn't a high rpm engine per se. It's a slightly shorter stroke 350 is all. The reason this is a long standing misconception is because comparitively, the '60's hi-po 327's were built to RPM a little more than the 350's of later years.

build to your intake, heads and exhaust and choose cam wisely. It'll be a good motor, but it makes no sense to build a 327 if you can build a 350 instead. More stroke = more power, end of story.

Fast Burn, Vortec (L31), L98, and other 350 intended heads will work. Depends on what you wanna do...

Oops, sorry jmd, FastBurns and Vortecs will not work. He said he wants to keep his TPI, which won't match to those heads' ports.

I will agree that there is no reason a 327 TPI shouldn't work as long as the PACKAGE is designed correctly. If I had a 327 block sitting around, you can be sure it'd be going into the Camaro! (It does make sense to build one if you have the 327 but not a 350). Don't tell me 327's aren't torque motors - I've driven 12,000 lbs of farm truck with them, and believe me, they will produce torque!

The LT1 heads would not work because of a different port design. World Products, ARP, Canfield and others all have versions that would work. As for the center intake bolt angle, just ask for the correct type ('87-later) when you order.

One other thing (although you didn't ask): The 327 will have a two-piece rear main, while your 305 has a one-piece. So, you'll need a different flex plate/flywheel.

I 100% agree. See https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000368.html wherein I say "going with Mini-Ram + AFR's or Ram-jet intake + Fast Burns." I feel either is a viable option for this.

I learned to drive in a '66 Chevy w/ 4 speed, 2 range transfer case & a grain bed on back. Great to partake in a piece of history.

I know the water ports don't work, but how different are the actual intake ports? The exhaust are standard D-port, just like Vortec's.
