Need advice on TBI to TPI swap
Need advice on TBI to TPI swap
I now have a 88 Camaro 305 with TBI. I would like to change to a 350 TPI. Can anyone tell me the differences between a 305 TPI setup verses a 350 TPI setup? I have looked at several post but nobody seem's certain on the differences. Second, when looking to buy a used TPI setup. What is a fair price? Dont mind paying for what I get but dont want to be ripped off either.
Thanks so much!

I'm pretty sure the only differences are the injector size, chip, and knock sensor. As for a fair price ona TPI setup, I guess it all depends on what you get and in what condition. I have seen way more MAF setups than speed density setups. Most complete MAF setups in good condition that I've seen are in the $300-$500 range. Most complete SD setups in good condition that I've seen are in the $400-$600 range. By "good condition" I mean all parts are functional and should be able to be installed without major cleaning or repairing. Those prices are based off what I've seen them offered for in the classified section of this site. If you are trying to find a setup that is correct for your year (i.e. MAF), then you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a setup in the price range I described.
I'm doing this exact thing same year too. Be for warned this is much more time consuming then you can imagine. Most is reserch into the specific parts needed. ie. new fuel pump (big PITA) and throttle cable, Anyway, I would recomend finding a speed density system from a 91 or 92. They may cost a bit more but they seem to much superior. As far as the differences in the 305/350 TPI setups. Dana pretty much got it. Injectors, chip, knock sensor. I got my TPI setup on ebay for about $700 but that included EVERYTHING, all the sensors, intake, snorkle computer, bolts, ect. It may be expensive but it is well worth getting everything together so you don't have to serching for obscure parts. most decent systems cost around $500. Another good idea is to make good use of the article in the tech article section regading this very topic. It is very well sritten and includes GM part numbers for stuff that you will need. Anyway if you need anymore info feel free to email me. You could write a novel about this.
