Thinking of swapping motors.. Need help
If I bought a 350 HO deluxe, complete with carb and everything. What else would I need to have done to get rid of my tbi and run the carb?
I'd have to get it installed because I don't have the slightest idea how to. LOL
Would i be able to keep my ac, cruise control, and will i still be able to make the torque converter lock up? What parts will I need?
I need advice, I don't want to spend a whole buttload of money... And i'm still not sure what motor to get anyways.

Brian,
I'm in the same boat that you are. I'm swapping out the 305 TBI and getting a 350 HO. It's the cheapest engine you can get $/hp wise. I figured that with the engine(shipped), a holley 670 cfm carb, vortec intake, 6 3/4 harmonic damper, it would cost $2,600. Add another $1000 to get it installed(that's what I've heard is top price for it, I don't know S**t about engine swaps either) You've got the entire engine done for $3600, and it gives 330 HP. That's huge. I don't know what you'd need for just carburation, but I know that 3600 isn't bad, especially since that's all the parts that dont come with it included.

Nobody seems to be answering your real questions. I haven't had a lot of exposure to TBI, but from what I do know about carb & TPI, and what I have heard about TBI, let me take a shot.
AC: Shouldn't be a big deal, but you may have a bracket or two that will need to come from a carb car.
Cruise: It's run by the ECM. I've heard conflicting stories about whether it continues to function when the TPS and ignition signals are eliminated. It too may need some brackets off of a carb car, and perhaps cable.
Torque convertor lockup: You'll need a lockup kit from Summit or Jegs.
You may need a new throttle and TV cable. I'm not sure if the TBI air cleaner base will fit - probably, I'm just not sure.
This type of swap is usually done by the owner because shops don't like to spend time addressing these nagging little details, and customers don't like to pay shop rates for them to run to the junk yard. Is there some place you could do this job - garage or a friend's garage? There's nothing like doing this type of thing to help you understand and appreciate how your ride works. Everybody who has done it had to do it for the first time some time.
