Help with my rough 305

I have a slooow 305 with 120k miles which is burning alot of oil. I like my car and want to keep it. The engine probally need to be rebuilt if I ever want my car to be fast. The only problem is that I have no garage or space to do this in. I am limited to weekend jobs. Its probally a good idea to have a engine in good condition before I bolt on any mods or nitrous. What are my options to fix up my engine?

I have a 92 camaro with a 305. You may want to consider swapping engines. I am going to go to a 350 and do some mods to it. My plan is to get a 350 and then put a 383 stroker kit in it. I found a place on the net where I can get one for $550. The kit includes forged pistons (which is what you would need to run NOS). The only potential problem I have is with the computer. Since my donor engine may not have TPI (which I would still have to change the computer and change the fuel pressure to use) I may go with a carb. I also posted a message to see if it would work with using my existing TBI so I could use all of my computer stuff.

Just something to think about because a 305 will never have enough power.......at least for me.

I would love to have a 383 in it, but like I said, I would have to pay someone else to do it. I would imagine that would cost a ton...considering the labor involved. But if anyone how much that would cost, please let me know.

Hey 92camarorshelp,
There is no way a TPI will be able to supply the power you are gonna need for a 383. The TPIs worked really well for the 305s and did ok with the 350. If you are looking for something that will give you what you need go for a Holley carb and a good intake like an Edelbrock Performer RPM. Just my $.02

black 85 Z28, t-tops, 4bbl carb, flowmaster 80 series muffler w/ custom tips (hollowed out cat), edelbrock chrome air cleaner, Infinity 4" 2 way front speakers and Infinity 3 way 6x9s, Alpine CDA-7863 head unit. many more mods planned (holley carb 4160 and edelbrock performer intake coming very soon)
