Install headers B$ putting engine in the car?
Install headers B$ putting engine in the car?
Just a quick question, in your opinion would it be better to install a set of TES headers on the heads first then drop the engine in or mount the engine in and then go at it from there? Thanks.

I don't have an answer for you unfortunately but I would like to know also. I have SLP headers and want to do the same thing. I think I heard once that it can't be done, but I don't see why not.

Can't speak for your specific headers, but my hedmans went in after the engine was in (actually when i put the long tubes in, the engine was still hanging from the hoist, but not mounted in the car yet so i could move it a little if i needed extra clearance). The shortys went in with the engine fully bolted in. If i remember right, one went from above, and one from below. Don't know if this is any help to you guys, but good luck.

How about put the headers in WHILE you put the engine in...

I do mine (TES) kind of like five7 described. I could put them in afterwards but the car would have to be way up in the air. They will not go in with the engine.
It varies according to what kind of headers you have among other things. Also, whether you have the A/C evaporator or not.

when I put the hedmans one, I set them in the engine bay.. safteywired them out of the way, then dropped the engine in, and bolted the headers on from there.. I tried to drop the motor in w/ the headers already bolted up, but the passenger side wouldn't clear the A/C crap.

p.s They were hedmans

cool thanks, I like the idea of wiring them to the engine bay then dropping in the engine. I have A/C so I probably couldn't drop the engine in with the headers on. Thanks again for all your help guys.
