305 ignition and 400 block

Hello All,
I have a 305sbc 4brl with factory eletric carb and distributer. I want to put a 400sbc with a edlebrock manifold and 400 heads in its place. Is it possible to do and keep the carb and will there be a big difference in performance? Also will i have to get the carb rejetted(+MSD help) and what other mods might i have to do?

See the magazine articles by Steve Green ("Stroke in the Desert", or something like that). He did this on a 383, which is close enough to your 400.

You should figure on upgrading the air cleaner and exhaust to freer flowing pieces.

And, dump the factory 400 heads - they're absolute junk for performance. Go with some type of performance replacement heads like World Products, Edelbrock, Holley, AFR; anything but stock 400 heads.
