Could I make my 700r4 to stand up to a ZZ4???

I am thinking of a motor swap in my 92 rs 305. Maybe a ZZ4 or something with equivalent power. I also plan on running it carbed.

Will my 700r4 (has 116,000 miles on it) be able to hold up to this? I realize it probably won't last long, but would it be possible to get it rebuilt to last for a long time?

Or should I buy a new tranny? Maybe a th350 or th400?? I sure would like to keep OD though.

Keep the 700 man when built up it is one tuff SOB but in factory dress can be kinda soft if your gona rebuild it, it dont take much to beef it up to take a ZZ4 tons of people have done this I know for sure Cus my buddie(CamaroMike) has this setup and he runs high 12,s but the trani isnt the big story there its his diff (factory 84 10bolt) thats the weakest link.

For their HO 350 Camaro Conversion (carb and auto cars only), which uses the ZZ4, GM gives you a pressure regulator spring, TV boost valve, and servo piston and housing. If they were worried about the tranny, I'm sure they'd do a lot more.

There are a bunch of TH700's behind BBC's. They can be made to handle the power you're talking about, and a lot more.

If you're really worried about it, give Dana at Probuilt a call.

Yes, that OD is very nice.
