well i didnt even drive it a week an the 305 is blown up.i was drivin it home from work 2 days ago an it just went to hell.has one helluva rod knock prolly more like 8 rod knocks {engine lost oil pressure}anyways i bought a 350 from a 76 chevy pickup for 125 bucks an it ran .im gonna freshen it up an throw it in tha 82 trans am.my questions are.about how much hp an tq you think ill have with, demon 625 carb, edelbrock perf rpm intake, edel perf rpm cam,1.6 roller rockers, headers,an about 9.5 to 1 or 10 to 1 compression, btw im gonna bore it too a 355.second question is,do you think the factory 4 speed will handle the 355's power?an my last question is how hard is it too convert a stick shift car to a 700r4 tranny.im gettin sik of shifting lol

Slap Vortec heads on the 355, and use the Vortec Perf RPM intake from Edelbrock w/ a CompCams 268 Xtreme energy cam and you'll be making between 360-400 hp depending on compression and tune...(NUMEROUS Magazine buildups all in this range) Can't beat the Vortecs for cheap performance w/ their $420 price for the pair complete. (You will need self aligning rockers and center bolt valve covers too though. You can get stock style stamped self aligning 1.5 rockers for around $50 from Jim Pace Chevy and probably numerous other places, I already had the valve covers but you should be able to get some for fairly cheap as well).

You'll be alot happier w/ the engine if you ditch the stock heads in favor of the Vortecs... The T5 tranny won't hold up long behind a stout 350 though, but it sounds like you're tired of the manual anyway. A mild rebuilt 700r4 will handle the power just fine.

If you want a 700R4 you will need to run lines to cool it from your radiator, you will need a different crossmember and another driveshaft. Those are all pretty cheap though. You will also need a flexplate. If you need a new 700R4, I have a freshly rebuilt one out of an 87 GTA I'll sell you for $250. Let me know.
