305 to 350...now flywheel wont fit into the t-5 bellhousing. what do i do??
i have a 86 camaro.it had a blown up 305 with a t-5.i have a mildly built 350 from the really early 70's that i want to use.The bellhousing lines up with the motor,BUT:
the starter does not give enough room to let the bell fit,and the flywheel i have to use with the 350(11")does not fit inside the bellhousing of the car.i cant use the 305 starter because it has different bolt pattern, and i cant use the flywheel from the 305,because its a 8"and the starter isnt anywhere close to it.WHAT DO I DO?my guess is a new bellhousing with extra room,(who makes this???)PLEASE HELLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!

86 camaro:was a v6 car,now its going to be a v-8 5.7l!!
350:cylinders bored .040 over.a little over 9:1 compression(getting a blower some day when im rich lol)line bored.deck is milled a little(was pitted)
trw forged pistons with summit stage 2 polished rods with arp bolts.
194? intake valves(not 2.02
( ),pocket ported,gasket matched,and polished ports,torker2 intake with new zinc 650 holley
matched comp cam...runs great on pump gas!!
ase certified for a few years, learned alot though
working on freakin NEONS ,cirruses, tauruses, cobras(well` at least they look nice lol)and intrepids all day makes me drink too much
good job security though
im always on the lookout for cheapv-8 t-5,s
and t-56 setups.they must be cheap.i dont care of they need rebuild,as long as they arent totally blown
also looking for a pair of iroc taillights,and a 145 speedo(cable driven)

There are two different flywheel sizes. You currently have the 167 tooth and you need to get the smaller 153 tooth (internally balanced). Problem solved

Your block may not have the correct bolt hole (the one nearer the crank) that the 153-tooth starter needs. That bolt pattern did not exist in the early 70s. You'll have to drill it.
It's a special hole: there's a section about ½" deep that is a larger diameter, to fit the part of the starter bolt (a special hardware, not an ordinary bolt) and provide positive location of the starter. This bolt hole's properties are extremely critical to proper operation of the starter. I'd strongly recommend getting it professionally done unless you are positive you know exactly how to locate it to within a few thousandths of an inch, get it perpendicular to the block, and otherwise make it perfect. Once you drill it you'll be stuck with it forever, and if it's wrong, you just ruined the block for your application.

They are right you need the 153 tooth flywheel for a 10.4" press plate with the early 2 piece main seal crank, after that it will all fit fine, believe pace has them.. www.paceparts.com
