305 head on 350
305 head on 350
im wanting to do a 350 swap i have a stock 305 in a 84 camaro i dont belive it has a computer i may be wrong let me no if i am im wondering if i can buy a 350 short block and just have my 305 heads reworked and use all the other parts i need off the 305 including the oil pan water pump and anything else. im gonna be using an edelbrock intake and edelbrock 650cfm carb let me no what you think will i get any advantages using the 305 heads.
Yea they do have advantages. Higher compression is the most important one.
Have larger valves put in and you wont regret it. Well except for the higher octane gas that will have to be used.

Another '84, sweet!! I would not recommend putting the 305 heads on the 350. To make it work, the short block would have to have pistons with big dishes in them to keep compression under control. If you never plan on doing anything else with the motor, then this will be fine. If you've got bigger thngs in mind, the deep pistons will limit the # of heads that will work, or at least raise the cost of the heads (extra machine work). My suggestion is to start with a good set of heads (like vortecs) so you won't have to replace them later. Just my $.02.

I had a set of 305 heads from an 86 TA (on a 76 350)that I gasket matched the intake and polished the exhaust, installed new springs and did a three angle valve job. It had a small cam (204/214-.420"-443") and a performaer intake with a carter 625cfm AFB. It ran strong down low but ran out of air around 4500. It was pretty good for stop light acceleration but i would get blown away after that.
