Caddy big block in 3rd gen firebird???

I have sweet idea. I found a running Cadillac 500 ci engine for a pretty good price, and I was wondering, would this fit under the hood? The engine didn't look just too big and was nice and tidy. I'm thinking that I'll have to have custom made motor mounts, and tranny crossmember for the caddy tranny, but other than that, It's just your average big engine, little car formula. Can you imagine the times I'll turn on an almost stock engine? Maybe low 13's with just an exhaust. Is that a conservative estimate? Should be interesting anyways.

It can be done but you'll need to be prepared to do a lot of fabrication.

The best way to wake up a caddy engine is to change the intake manifold. The other weak spots are the valve train. In stock form, they don't like going higher than 5000 rpm.

Thank you stephen!

Do you know where I can come across a decent intake manifold for the engine? Any place that has prices listed?

TIA,
Chris

If you want drag race parts then you need to get ahold of Cad Company.

THE CADDY MOTORS HAVE A NEGATIVE PLENUM INTAKE, AND IT KILLS THEM, THE EDELBROCK INTAKE IS GOOD FOR AN HONEST 65-75 HORSE POWER, YOU WILL NEED TO USE BBC HEADERS, TO REPLACE THE SECOND WEAK LINK WITH IS THE RESTRICTINE MANIFOLDS, THE TUBES ARE IN THE RIGHT LOCATIONS, BUT THE FLANGES ARE WRONG, YOU CAN GET FLANGES FROM C.M.D. (CADDILAC MOTORSPORT DEVELEPMENT) OR FROM M.T.S. (MAXIMUM TOURQUE SPECIALISTS) BOTH HAVE WEBSITES, BUT I DON'T KNOW THE URL'S OFF HAND. IF YOU ARE LEAVING IT STOCK, YOU MUST AT LEAST CHANGE THE TIMING CHAIN AND GEARS, THEY HAVE THE PLASTIC COATING, AND WILL BE IN VERY POOR SHAPE, BAD ENOUGH YOU WILL WONDER HOW IT RAN. WITH THE STOCK VALVETRAIN YOU CAN MAKE AN EASY 550 HORSE (STOCK MOTOR HEADERS AND INTAKE AND YOUR THERE) BUT KEEP THE RPM'S DOWN. MAKE USE OF THE 323 REAR, YA WON'T WANT ANY STEEPER OF A GEAR, THE 472-500 CADDY ONLY WEIGHS 75 POUNDS MORE IN STOCK TRIM THAN A SBC, AND WITH THE ALUM. INTAKE, ABOUT 45. THERE ARE MANY AFTERMARKET PARTS, INCLUDING STROKER KITS AVAILABLE FOR THEM (545 BLACK BIRD, DAM WHAT A MOTOR) SHOOT ME A E-MAIL IF YA NEED ANY MORE INFO, I HAVE BUILT ABOUT 30 OF THESE FOR AIRBOAT USE (INCLUDING A TWIN TURBO 875 HORSE DYNO PROVEN KILLER), AND HAVE PUT A FEW IN DIF. CARS/TRUCKS. ALSO CLOWES MAKES A GREAT TIMING SET FOR 100 BUCKS, IT IS SUPER STRONG, AND IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WILL HOLD UP TO MY CARBON FIBER 10 BLADE WARP DRIVE PROP.
