350 Choice?

I have a 305 and looking to go 350. But here is my options i'm looking towards

A) 350 crate engine (385 fastburn)
or
B) Build my own 350 from pan up

next

1) Root Supercharger 8~12lbs
or
2) Twin Turbo

I'm trying to look for the cheapest way but still making out enough while maintaining drivable gas mileage (12~20 mpg) :P

Since A) has hypereutectic pistons, it shouldn't be used with 1) or 2).

Re: 350 Choice?

Depends on what type of power out of them. I would say a safe bet is a forged rotating assembly. Forced induction is never cheap. You might be able to get away with a set of forged pistons however. If you go that way there are some decent rebuilt kits you can get which include them for under 500. (does not come with the crank or rods). But it would allow you to make sure that any used 350 you may get will potentially last you alot longer than the non-rebuild used 350 will.

I myself Am looking at going the used 350 route with a rebuild. Total cost would be less than the long block I would need.

Primarily pistons.

You might try calling Scoggin-Dickey. They might put together a forged piston Fast Burn 385 for you.

Re: 350 Choice?

well either way i don't mind.400+ or 600+ hp/tq

I can get a 4 bolt main easily. Would it be cheaper to build a 350 and later bolt on the forced induction or build the 350 with the forced induction? Does the year of the block matter either? I'm looking at a 4bolt main 350 but curious on the year. Looking at carbed too..
