strange question
strange question
Here goes, could I put a 454, or a 502 in my car and still get descent gas milage if I kept(?) my foot of the floor. Obviosly I need to change the drivetrain ext. But, could I put a big block in and still have a daily driver while putting it in 12 or 11's.
Thanxs.

if your going to put a big block in,with a 750 cfm carb its going to eat gas i think.mabye im wrong, but i dont think youll get what you want, look at what your little small block gets!it wont be close, but mabye somebody else knows something that will help the motor get better mileage..id keep the small block, body twists enough as it is lol

Depends. A small block revs higher to provide requred power. Since a big block can supply the same power at a lower rpm there's less throttle required. Now when you go to WOT all those cubic inches will require more fuel to burn. Going from a 350 to a 454 adds 104 more cubic inches to feed. Guestimate about 1/4 less mpg just from that but a big block doesn't usually get bad milage from driving. The poor milage comes from idling.

Just my two cents worth. A buddy of mine put a 454 in his 83 Berlinetta (got it to pass Ohio E-check as well) and he was filling the tank every trip and a half to-and-from work, where as the 305 it replaced would go from Monday morning to Friday on the way home before it needed to be filled up again.
