My friend still has his blown up 403 out of his Hurst. He said everything will bolt up to my tranny, but will be an easy change or not even work at all? Will the computer accept it (I'd like to keep the tbi, but don't have to)? I'm 18 an can get this engine cheap and get a forged rebuild kit for $898.

IMO a 403 is not a boat anchor. it was good enough for smokey and the bandit....
however i wouldnt bother dropping a 403 which parts are gonna be expensive for into a thirdgen camaro or firebird/ta
spend the money on a 355 or 383. maybe even a chevy 400.

AFAIK they never used the 403 in the cars in the movie.
If you really want something bigger, theres the Chevy 400 (easy swap), BBC, and a Pontiac. If you really want an olds engine, then you should just go with the cubes since they are both heavy and stick a 455 in it. Parts for the olds and pontiac (both of which were discontinued years ago) tend to be more costly, and aftermarket support is there but theres really no variety like the SBC and SBF.

they didnt use the 403?? i thought that they were...i know that they used a variety of setups the pontiac 400 and 455(to jump that bridge) and manual/auto trannies.
i was pretty sure i read somewhere the 403 was used...but ill stand corrected. i still dont believe its a boat anchor however.
