Swap Parts List
Swap Parts List
Okay I have an '87 305 with a 4 barrel. I am writing to ask what parts I need to support a larger carbed sbc, either a 350 or 383. My car has a 700R4 tranny and a 2.73 rear end. Now I know I am looking at a trannie rebuild and could definitely use a different rear end gear but that will all change soon as well. What I need to know is what will be needed? From what I gather I will need a new fuel, water pump, depending on whether the motor is a 2 or 1 piece seal a 153 tooth flexplate and a knock sensor right? Or am I missing anything? Also what the hell is a knock sensor exactly, pardon my ignorance just don't know what that is. Thanks a lot in advance, I would like to get this done as soon a possible because a camry pulled with me awful hard today
and it has bugged the hell outta me.
Thanks Again,
Rob

If your going with a regular carb then you need to forget about the knock sensor. Your going to need a non-computer HEI distributor for sure. My 86 Z that came wiht a 305/4bbl carb had a mechanical fuel pump already so check to see if you have a mech or an in-tank before you get a new one. If you currently have V-belts then you won't need a new pump, but think about replacing the one you have while the engine is out, it's alot easier. If you go with a 2 piece rear main then you will also need to go with headers, the dipstick ends up right behind the manifold with 86-up cars and stock exhaust.
What am I forgetting?....
