BUICK 3.8 TURBO IN F BODY???
I've heard so much about the turbo 3.8 in GN/t types/turbo trans ams that i want one! I have a 2.8 mpfi auto now, How hard would it be to swap in a turbo 3.8 from a GN? I've been searching the archives looking for info on this and have not found much. I am wondering why many people havent dropped in this engine. the power and mpg are incredible. any advice and help would be appreciated, thanks!

You need to find a complete car (junk) to really do the job well.The 3.8 in the 89 tta is a little different from the buick engines mainly in that it uses 3.0 fwd heads.There is more but to be honest I've never done a swap like this.I have a GN and a friend of mine has a tta.They can be very quick!If you are still interested I have a friend parting a car out (87 ttype with turbo 3.8).
Those swap are not difficult or expensive just time consuming.

Thanks for the info No5.0, do you know exactly what i would need? i heard that to use the 3.8 in an f body would require custom exhaust. Are there anythings i may need to change?

Your best bet is to try another web forum like turbobuick.com they have a section on tta's which can help you greatly.Please remember that this swap will be more than the engine itself it will also include tran and rearend. Later
does he still have the rear end from the gn? if so what does he want for it?

I believe he wants to sell the whole car for around 2200.A tree limb fell on the back of the car I think the rear is fine.Car has around 130k on it I'll try to get his number tomarrow so you can go direct.Please email me if interested

why not consider a 4.3 turbo instead?you don't have to change the motor mounts,tranny,etc.just find yourself a bashed typhoon or syclone to pull the engine from

Hey pete what kind of junkyards in your neck of the woods?The total production of all sy ty's is around 6000 vs around 30,000 for the 86-87 gn ttypes.Good luck!
