Chevy V8 question
Chevy V8 question
What are my options for 350s in a '91 Camaro? Is a Chevy 350, a Chevy 350, is a Chevy 350 as far as engine mounting and trany mounting, or are there differecnces? Thank you in advance for your help.

Engine and tranny mounting, correct - no differences.
But...
Intake, cam, flex plate - that's where the differences are: '86-earlier different than yours for the first two, '85-earlier different for the latter.
Of course, there are sedan 350's, truck 350's, performance 350's - now you're getting into a real "mouse" trap.

I plan on swaping the 3.1 for a 350. On my desktop dyno software it says it'll have about 480hp with everything I'm getting. Later I will add twin turbos, but not for awile. So basicly all I need is a 350 block and then go from there and it doesn't matter where I get the block from as long as it's a Chevy right?

A Target 350 block, cast in Mexico, may not be the ticket for your dreams. Perhaps you should consider the World Motown block instead. It's $1700 plus tax & shipping, but it should hold up to the abuse you're about to heap on it.
2-bolt, 4-bolt, splayed caps, forged crank, roller block, flat tappet, internally balanced, hypereutectic, one-piece - heard any of these terms? Understand what they mean? Not to flame, but if not, you've got a lot of research to do before you take off on this kind of project.

I was thinking about pulling a block out of a salvage yard and having it bored out rather then getting a new block as I am on a budget. This will be my 3rd engine build/swap, so I know what I'm doing. I just havn't done swaps in newer cars and wasn't sure if there were differences between blocks. What is the best trany for what I want? I was thinking of going with the turbo 350 as I am very pleased with it's performance in my Nova, but if there is something better then please let me know. If I get a post 86 block will heads from a pre 86 work, or are there differeces? Thank you for your help.

Not trying to sound like a smart a$$, but go to Barnes & Noble and get this book;
Title- Chevy Parts Interchange Manual
Author- Ed Staffel
Publisher- Cartech
It'll answer a lot of your questions. This book (nor any other in the world) doesn't have all the answers to SBC questions, but it covers a lot of more "common" ones.
