lb9 to vette l98 problems

i finally decided to get rid of the lb9 in my 86iroc and toss in a l98 from a 86 vette. the problem i am having is the oil pan is not exactly the same and im having problems with the y pipe fitting correctly. this motor was not fun to install so i really dont want to pull it. Does anyone know if i can change the pan with the motor in, or do i need to remove the motor? also will i need a camaro oil pickup to go with the camaro pan?
thanks in advance

I wasnt aware they were different... not that means they arent but anyways the stock pan you can get off with the engine in, but you have to raise it up a few inches. I'd pull the distributor if its in, otherwise you will probably break it. Cant really help on the pickup, it should be the same. Measure the depth from the pan rail to the bottom of the pan on both, see if its the same or not, probably is.

Unbolt the motor mounts, remove the distributor and lift the engine. You make be able to coax out the pan if you can gain enough clearance underneath. It's a gamble though, I've never done it. I have heard it's possible though.

The 'Vette pans are different, L98's and LT1's have a pan which has a rear exit drain plug and the bottom of the pan stretches further toward the front. The LT1 pans also have the oil level sender hole.
