early 283/327
early 283/327
i have a buddy who has one of the early 283s. the crank doesnt have the balancer bolt hole in it. well, he put power steering on, now it throwing the balancer off. it did fine for 5 years now all of the sudden he cant keep the balancer on the crank. any ideas?

What did the 283 come out of.I dont know of any 283crank that doesnt have a balncer bolted on.

My '57 283 didn't have a crank bolt. When I put in a '68 327 short block (no balancer included), the 283 balancer walked out on me. I had to find a bolt & washer to take care of it.
But, your problem is exactly the opposite. I think the only solution is a new balancer made for the older press-on style.
Well, the other solution would be to have the crank machined to accept a bolt.
