L98 block question

What can one of these 2 bolt main blocks handle. Throw the TPI in the garbage, put on a good set of heads and a carb and let her fly. Will they take 500hp? Would it do any good to conver it to a 4 bolt main?

Re: L98 block question

yes you can run 500hp on a two bolt main. I wouldn't run much more than that and use ARP studs.

Throwing away TPI, you can just ship it to me, lol. A lot of guys run TPI and make some great power. I run HSR with all fuel injection and make almost 500 ponies.

Re: L98 block question

The TPI has it's place for some but I have not found it to be the right set up for me. After you get done replacing parts, adding bigger injectors, trying to tune it or have it tuned, you have more in it than a simple carb carb set up that any one can tune. The TPI I have now runs perfect and I think it's great but I want to make power the way I know how to. Holly 4150, Th400 and a built 12 bolt. Might want to keep an eye on the classified section for a good deal on a complete TPI set up from the ECU to the TB.

Re: L98 block question

that's personal preference....I prefer to tune with a computer.....and have the computer adjust everything for optimal performance and not mess with a carb. I prefer taller gears, a 5 speed trans, and fuel injections....but then again my car is not a drag car.
But you're block can handle the power. you should get some good money out of a complete tpi system heads up with everything, including computer.

Re: L98 block question

I tune with my laptop. EFI Live is the way to go. It's much easier to do it with my diesel though. I really like the fuel injection and it does have it's up side. I just don't have the time to deal with getting the stuff to burn my own PROMs and get it to the dyno and test and tune. I can build a motor with a carb, drop it off 20 miles from my house, have it dyno tuned with a carb and drop it in the car for the final tweaking.

Is your 10 bolt having any problems dealing with the power that you make? It's 3.23's so I assume it's a 10 bolt.
