350 HO Crate Engine

I have a 1990 Camaro RS with 305 TBI and TH-400-R$ auto OD tranny, i want to have this crate 350 into the car, but i know little about motor swaps so i was wondring if there is anything prior to the actual swap that must be done....like tranny work, higher rear gears, etc. For all i know this swap isnt even possible or complicated...if anyone has done it or knows anything about it please respond thank you.

The 350 HO uses Vortec heads, which have a unique intake manifold bolt pattern and do not have an exhaust cross-over passage. So, your current TBI manifold will not bolt up, but a manifold can be had to get the job done. For the EGR valve to work, you have to plumb exhaust up from the manifold/header to the intake manifold. There are also reports that not all of the exhaust manifold bolts have some place to go in the Vortec heads, but aftermarket headers takes care of that problem.

All of this is do-able, but probably not a good thing to take on unless you have some idea how to do these types of things, and too expensive to have it done by a shop. But, the good news is the tranny and rear are fine.

Oh, it's a TH700R4 transmission, not 400.

You didn't mention anything about using a carb, so I assumed you were going to put your TBI back on.

Go with the 350 HO Deluxe if you're going carb. It has all those things already. Assuming you don't have any emissions inspection/testing, that is.

Headers and a good flowing exhaust would be a very good idea in order to get the most out of the engine. You'll also need a way to lock up your torque convertor clutch, since your computer will be brain-dead. Summit, Jegs, TCI, Pro-built all carry a kit to make it work.

Check out my website.
If the link isn't working at the top of the page let me know through e-mail. I have a whole list of parts and how to do the TBI swap to the 330hp 350 motor (I did it).
