Double motor swap L03 to L98 and vice versa

I have never done a motor swap and could use some help. The two cars I will have are an 88' IROC Auto L98 w/TPI & 92' RS T-5 305 TBI. Will I have any issues swapping the motrs/injection system/harness between these two vehicles or is this a pretty simple thing to do. Would different trannys impact the swap? Could use some additional thoughts/input from more experienced hands........PLEASE....

Thanks...Alex

Are you keeping the transmissions in the cars they are in currently? If so, you'll need a pilot bearing for the L98, and the T5 will probably not be happy with you for very long.

I believe the T5 computers do not lock up the TCC if an auto is installed (or it is installed with an auto, like I think you are doing). And, obviously, the TBI harness won't have the harness to the tranny. Shouldn't be too much of an issue, though. Just get a harness & computer from an auto car.

Yep, tranny's are staying in the same cars. I agree regarding your thoughts on ther T-5, the plan it to go to a Tremec or T-56, hopefully before the T-5 blows up. I guess the TPI 350 computer will work fine with the T-5 then? What's a pilot bearing?

Pilot bearing goes into the back of the crank. The nose of the tranny input shaft (also called the pilot shaft) goes into it. The bearing allows the engine and input shaft to turn a different speeds (for neutral and shifting) while supporting the input shaft.

Engines for automatic cars don't have the pilot bearing, but the crank is machined to accept one.
