Anyone have DETAIL specs on 350 buildup
The 305 is getting tired in my 88 Formula. I've searched all the tech and msg boards, but can't find a detail list of block, cam, etc. to get to, oh, let's say 300 to 325 hp from a 350 replacement. Ground rules: Keep the TPI and A/C. Keep it 'computered'. Beef up the 700R4 tranny (what's that mean anyway?). Probably start with a GM crate engine. Want it for the street, but may want to occasionally run it at the strip. Where can I find what cam, etc, I need to get to 300 hp? Still too vague? Is it out on a board somewhere? Tried Scoggin, but no details.

If you go to wild, you will need a custom PROM chip. I was going to do this before I found out the cam I used has a 112 lobe sep., 114 is most wanted, and my Vortec heads wouldn't bolt to my intake. Now the intake problem is fixed for $400, but I don't want it now. Keep the cam duration between 222-230, lift is your choice, lobe separation again is best at 114 or more. For a 350 AFR 195, Vortec's if you get a new base and EGR setup, even Corvette L98 aluminum is better than cast iron, cast crank is okay if you stay below 6,500 rpm, same with pistons, keep compression around 10:1. I would have the trans rebuilt by a good shop in your area. The block, if you were building this yourself, could be a stock one, just have a mchine shop check it, and have it hot tanked. As far as a crate engine, I know the ZZ4 is real popular.
For 300-325hp, a 350 with an SLP cam, ported plenum, air foil, 52mm TB, good set of headers, and a good cat back should put you in the neighborhood. Headers-your choice, for me I would get some Hedman, Hooker, or Dynomax, Catback-Flowmaster, Hooker.
I hope this helps a little, if not e-mail me, I will see what I can do.
