More 383 than I bargained for? HELP
1st post here guys so Hello everyone!
I bought 90% of a 383 from a neighbor who hit hard times and moved recently. I'm no motor builder or even close so I need some help on what I have and if it can work for my car. 91z street driven 355 402 hp t56 and moser 12 bolt 4.10 gear, not a daily driver but a street car.
The list: 383
*Dart block-used
*Eagle rotating assmbly-new
4340 crank & h-beam SRP forged flat tops
*Lunati Voodoo solid roller-new
Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 249/255
Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .585/.600
LSA/ICL: 110/106
Valve Lash (Int/Exh): 016/016
RPM Range: 2800-7200
*Dart pro1 215cc 64cc chambers-new
assembled, 1.550 springs
*Lunati SR race lifters -new
*Lunati Voodoo 1.5 roller rackers-new
*Weiand xcelerator intake-new
& Team G intake-used
*Holley 830cfm- used/rebuilt
I was told this was borderline streetable on 93oct, but was one nasty setup. If it is streetable would the Fast EFI off my 355 help any?
Anyone care to help a newbie?
Thanks Bryan

take it to a chassis dyno to have it tuned, they'll be able to dial it in for a couple hundred dollars easily.

Might want to make a call to the fine folks at Fast, Bryan... They advertise some of their units will support up to 1,000 hp. I would imagine some mods and programming changes would be in order to make one from a 355 support a 383 stroker with good heads and cam... Probably some EFI guru's on here that would know what to do to make it perform to potential, but I'm certainly not one of them....I'd have to stick with the 830 Holley on the Team G intake....
Re: More 383 than I bargained for? HELP
Your build specs out very close to my 383. Head size and compression are the same and i have no issues running pump premium.
My cam has the same lash spec but i found it loose with almiunum heads and cut it down to a .013/.014 go-no go gauge. Quieted it down quite a lot but it did effect bottom end power a bit.
I am with radical82, i would just run the Team G and the holley. I am running a Pro-Products Hurricane(big single plane) and an AED HO-HP 750(AED's build of a holley HP) and it works great for me.

Thanks for all the post I didnt expect any so soon. I had the Fast EZ EFI installed on my 355 and love it, picked up 15ft/lb 9hp. Wanted to try it on the 383, Fast says it supports 550hp. Neighbor said the 383 would make 600hp above 6k rpm.
Any ballpark hp/tq, compression figures?
I'm scared of that cam on the street, it sounds amazing but doubt if it will idle. I got a plate that goes with the intake and was told to use it on the street.
Will my Hooker comps fit the Darts?

It'll idle, not real smooth, but it will idle!!! Header fit depends on which head design it is, are the standard port, spread port, or raised port exhaust???? Hate to guess on hp figures, just way too many variables on the tune up.... Might do 600 in the hi revs, you could conservatively plan on 500 to 550. Ran a similar 383, but on E-85 with a much modded 750 Dominator---it did 570 and change at 7000... probably had more in it with some tweaking, but it was just a break in and one pull dyno run....
Re: More 383 than I bargained for? HELP
Flat tops with reliefs are normally advertised for a 383 at 10.7:1 compression with a 64cc combustion chamber. If your block is decked so your piston sits at zero deck with a regular composite gasket you are looking closer to 11:1.
I honestly don't see 600 hp with that compression and with those heads out of the box. Probably more in the 550-570 neighborhood if everything is deadnuts on.
I totally missed that you already had the fast setup. I would run that for sure unless all out track performance is your goal.
Those heads aren't raised runners and will work with your headers.

I'm pretty sure u'll get 600hp outa that setup..Its almost identical to the setup i'll be using in the spring. I've used this setup in a dyno sim and made 603hp with a little tweaking. I know its only a sim but its supposed to be within 2% of actual numbers. I'll let you know this spring.

Thanks for all the help guys! I didnt really have any HP goals with this but 550 or so is halirious considering what I paid
. If all goes well should have it in the car in April and have a broke transmission by summer
