Pulling a motor question - Swap experts please enter

I am swapping both the tranny and motor. Since the T56 is used, I plan to swap it first and keep the old engine for testing. I need to eliminate some variables from doing both swaps at the same time in case I have problems. My question is, will I have to take out the transmission again to put in my crate motor, or will I just need to undo the bell housing to motor bolts? Trying to eliminate duplicate work if I can.

Thanks in advance...Alex

Just unbolt bellhousing from motor and pull motor mount bolts and pull it right out.

flywheel is bolted to the crank. torque converter is bolted to the flywheel.
torque converter slides into tranny.

so yes, the flywheel comes out with the motor, as well as the torque converter if you dont unbolt it.

Uhhh, T56 - what torque converter?

The flywheel is bolted to the crank, the clutch is bolted to the flywheel. The T56 input shaft will slide out of the clutch.

Getting it back in will be a challenge, to be sure. It may be easier in the end to pull the tranny with the engine, split the engine/tranny while out, remount the tranny to the engine, and re-stab the engine/tranny together.

five7kid-

You think I can do this with a basic engine hoist (with leveler) in my garage?

Although I am not "five7kid" I will answer your question with a definite yes. Take your time and good job on obtaining an engine leveler.

The tilt sling (leveler) is a huge plus. I did my install w/auto attached in my garage with cherry picker/tilt sling. Doing so with a manual should be even easier.

I just did the swap in my garage as well. I pulled them both together and mine was an auto, should be even easier with a manual.
