385 Fastburn

Would it be possible to get a 385 fast burn and just install the tpi system to it to keep it smog legal in Cali. The stock 5.7 it cool but I want something a little stronger and a lot faster. The 385 is a ZZ4 block so it should just bolt up. If it will work there will be a 350 block for sale cheap. Any help on this will be appreciated.

Hey. I'm pretty sure the fb heads are the vortec truck design and I know the bolt pattern is different (straight vs. splayed- pretty much like main caps). There are places that will redrill the heads/intake to work with each other or you can do it yourself if you're feeling ballsy. I've been looking into putting those heads and a tpi setup on my '71 400 block and that's what I was told you have to do to pull it off. Good luck and let me know if it works out

they come in both bolt patterns but the ports are so much bigger that they'll peak out above the TPI base plate.

yes you can do: A mini ram, a Ram Jet, wait for the new TPI vortec base, or get the holley efi intake for vortec pattern.
www.tpis.com <--- place for mini ram
www.sdpc2000.com <--- Ram Jet or vortec TPI
http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin.../9901-110.html

In all honesty, I don't think any of these are 50 state legal. You will have the best lucky sneeking the TPI with the Vortec base though. You should look into some 50 state legal heads like from AFR, trick flow, holley...etc and have them professionaly ported.
