91 engine in 84
I own an 84 TA 4bbl HO. I am planning on buying a reconditioned 350 from a 91/92 TA to replace the 305. I am planning on keeping all the 84's electronics... computer, carb, emissions equipment, ect. What I was wondering is... will this work, EFI head wise and the like, (I know I have to buy a carb intake for the 350), and what parts can I keep from the 305 (such as starter, intake, flywheel ect) to save myself some $$$? Thanks for any replies.

All of it, except the flex plate/flywheel. Your '84 is a two-piece rear main seal style crank, and the '91/92 is one-piece.
The intake center two bolts on each side will be a different angle on the heads vs. the intake, but you can elongate those holes in the intake to make it work. Or, get a Performer or Action + for '87-later style.
You might want to talk to Jet about calibrating the 4bbl and ECM to the 350.

who's Jet, and how can I reach him? Also, about how much $$ might this swap run? I know it's about $1,350 for the 350, I'm more or less wondering about the cost of having it put in. If the '87 intake will work, I think I'll save myself the aggrivation and just buy that. I'm going to have a mechanic do this, so the technicals will be left to them. Thanks for any replies.

Jet Performance. Don't have their info with me here, but they advertise in the usual magazines.
You said "flywheel", so I assumed you had a manual tranny. What you actually need is a 153 tooth flexplate for a one-piece rear main seal. Your torque converter will bolt up to the new flexplate.
I've never priced an engine replacement, because that's work I do myself. I'd imagine about $500-800 labor, plus small parts like intake gaskets, hoses, belts, and fluids.

Final question: Where can I get the Performer or Action + intake for the '87-later style? Would they be in the usual magazines under Edlebrock or Holley? I assume they would all be mail order. Thanks again for your time.
