V6 - V8 wiring?
V6 - V8 wiring?
My cousin is currently swapping in the complete running gear and wiring from a 1986 T/A 305 fuel injected, into a 1984 2.8 carburated. He is running into problems in the rear of the car. Under the drivers side door, he has had to splice some wires and he has done the same in the rear for the taillights, the only problem is that the wires are a little different. There are the same number of wires and most are the same color and in the same location, but a few have been different. He hasn't listened too me, and already spliced them, but I was wondering if anyone has had a similar swap, and if they had wiring problems. I have a feeling that none of his taillights will work, and that he may be asking for more headaches down the road.

I ran into that, at the dash harness to rear chassis harness connector, which is at the driver's kick panel. I was using '86 donor parts, including the entire dash harness, connecting it into my '82 there.
My Haynes manual had a good wiring diagram for the '82, but not the '86. I went to the library and got 6 pages of microfische diagrams for 25 cents each. I forget the exact details, but what they changed between those years for color coding didn't make much sense. When I powered it up, I had something wrong (switched brake light with one turn signal, I think). After some trial-and-error tracing down with a multimeter (I think the library schematic had an error) and fixing that, it's all worked fine since.
