2.8-5.0 Swap
hi all! i recently stared a really low buget swap. i started out with a 1991 rs with a 5.0 tbi stock and a 5speed, with a bad paint job and needed alot of work (the hose for the windsheld washer fluid whent stright to the engine vacuum and electric wireing work) for under 1000$. well i couldnt save it before it seen the nearest ditch and end its life. so i chose not to fix the minor body and buy a new one. so i purcased a 1989 rs 2.8 mfi v6 that has a 5speed, great body with t-tops, new paint job and the whole inside was redone with leather and power everything and pace setter headers. so im in the process of swaping the 5.0 tbi to the 89. the only other swap i have done is in a 3000gt and that was ez because it was the same engine. the timming was alittle different with the dual over head cam.
I have started to swap it to carborated. i bought a hei dizzy with vacuum advance 65k spark 50$, a holley 650 carb 50$ but im still trying to find a intake manifold for the 87-95 heads for a cheap price but it looks like im buying a new one, new motor mounts. i have both engines out and trannys but theres a few problems i have ran into. one of the issues im haveing is with the speedo cable the 89 has a hard wire and the tranny for the 5.0 has an electric speedo not sure how im goin to go with that yet some info and ideas would be great everything else that i have had questions on i have found on this site! this site is great!

I'm not very familiar with T5's, but I know with TH700's, you can change the cable drive and VSS from transmission-to-transmission.

ok thx another questin i have is all the electric choke on the carb has is a 12v switch can i hook that on to the pink stock wire 12v for the dizzy? just ordered my intake manifold for 110$ off of sumit

i wanted to stay electronic speedo but i swaped out the gears to cable so it will still work no biggy but the carb i bought does not have a choke on it... i didnt notice it till later but how important is it?

well i got it all in and started it up, had a few problems with tuneing the fuel reguator and the carb. well it ended up the intake manifold leaked water into the engine...oh joy...so i have ripped the top off again and have started cleaning the area again but im not sure what i did wrong??? and ya the oil needs replaced and a new intake manifold

i have fix all other problems but i have one that i cant seem to get over. the fuel pressure was fine for alittle running at 42 psi or so but right after i got the carb tunned just right with the 7-9 psi the alternator gave out....so i replaced and works good but now the fuel pump is not putting out pressure..it works and puts out like 1 psi but i cant get it to put out more??? the only thing i have done was the fuel filter and its in the right way...im so lost iv spent almost 2 whole days trying to get the pump to get pressure back. any thoughts?
